The Obsidian Swordfish is actually used as a weapon and has one of the second-highest base damages of any spear. You will need a Flarefin Koi as well to complete an Inferno Potion. The Obsidifish can be used to craft Inferno Potions and Potions of Return. You can catch a couple of different types of fish: Flarefin Koi, Obsidifish, and the Obsidian Swordfish (hardmode).

However, if you don't have this ability you will need to locate an option that is deep enough. This does not need to be deep underground, you can make yourself a pool near your base if you're crafty enough. Once you have your lava fishing methods of choice, you will now need a suitable pool of it.
